Artist Biography

Diane is based in the West of Ireland. Diane is a dual Irish and UK citizen, born in Manchester, educated in Wales, she travelled west until she ran out of land and arrived in Galway Bay.
She qualified from the Atlantic Technical University (ATU - formally Galway Mayo Institute of Technology), with a B.A. in Art and Design (2008) and a B.A.(Hons) in Fine Art (2009).
Diane's work highlights the beauty found in repetition and unlikely places. Recurring themes are man, the man-made landscape, man-made objects and abandoned spaces - not just in the traditional sense, but also in a wider contemporary setting. Her work hinges on the point where reality and abstraction meet. It focuses on capturing a distortion of the real, culture and environment.
As a student Diane was twice selected to take part in the RDS student awards and travelling exhibitions. Since qualifying, Diane has exhibited in Wexford Open Art exhibition, she has taken part in a number of group exhibitions and she held her first solo exhibition in August 2011.
Diane's work can be found in 2 public buildings in Ireland - the National University of Galway (NUIG) Engineering Building and also University College of Dublin (UCD) Engineering building.
Diane's work was selected for a TG4 documentary - Dallamullóg. Her selected piece was exhibited in the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) Dublin.

Dallamullóg - TG4 documentary
Dallamullóg is a show involving the Irish art community and features some of Ireland’s best known artists. Diane entered and won an Open competition organised by RTE and TG4. The prize involved an exhibition in Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) Dublin. Each episode followed the fate of an ordinary tradesperson as they transfer their skills to the art studio in order to create a piece of art which will be assessed by a critic. The tradespeople were mentored by a renowned Irish artists including the likes of Cliodna Cussen, Peadar Lamb and Turner nominated painter Liam De Frinse. finally each tradesperson exhibited their work along side professional artists. The program aimed to trick the critic into thinking the tradesperson was the professional. Dianes episode featured a stained glass artist and the late critic Peadar Lamb. Fortunately for Diane she was identified as a professional and not a tradesperson. Phew!
